Free sleep cycle planner for bedtime and wake-up times
SleepCalculator is a free online sleep cycle planner that helps you find the best bedtime or wake-up time based on 90-minute sleep cycles. It works backward from your target wake-up time or forward from the current time, giving you six practical options built around complete sleep cycles.
How long is a sleep cycle? A sleep cycle is often described as roughly 90 minutes, but real cycles vary during the night and from person to person. This calculator uses 90 minutes as a simple planning interval.
What time should I go to bed if I wake up at 6 AM? Set 6:00 AM in the Sleep Calculator to see six options. The earlier suggestions allow time for five or six complete cycles plus about 15 minutes to fall asleep.
If I go to sleep now, when should I wake up? Choose “Calculate wake-up time.” The calculator starts from your device’s current time, adds 15 minutes, and shows six possible wake-up times.
How many sleep cycles do I need? Many adults aim for five or six complete cycles, but age, health, sleep debt, and individual biology affect how much sleep feels restorative. Use the result as a planning guide.
Is waking between sleep cycles easier? Some people feel less groggy when an alarm lands near a cycle boundary. Cycle length is not exact, so the suggested times improve planning but cannot predict a specific sleep stage.
Does the calculator replace medical sleep advice? No. It estimates timing only. Persistent insomnia, severe daytime sleepiness, breathing problems, or other sleep concerns should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional.
